Boiler not working when it’s very cold outside?

Check if your condensate pipe is frozen.

Is your boiler making banging, gurgling, or bubbling sounds?

Check if your condensate pipe is frozen.

Does your boiler shut down straight after starting?

Check if your condensate pipe is frozen.

Follow the below steps to defrost a frozen condensate pipe…

1. Switch your boiler off

2. Turn your electricity off at the wall

3. Go outside and find your condensate pipe (usually, a white plastic pipe fixed to an outside wall – see pic above)

4. Pour warm water over the pipe (repeat twice in very cold weather)

TIP: Use a watering can or cooled boiled kettle water (not boiling)

5. Turn the electricity back on

6. Turn the boiler back on

7. Click reset or restart

If your condensate pipe is frozen and therefore blocked, this will solve the problem. If it doesn’t, then it’s time to call a Gas Safe registered engineer to fix the problem for you.
