North East Boiler Cover Company, Offsets CO2 by Planting Forest
North East family-run heating company, Gas Angel Heating, launches its new boiler and central heating cover plans with a pledge to plant trees every time a customer takes out or renews a policy.
The Newcastle-based company formally launched Gas Angel Cover in June 2020, and directors, Amy and David Mooney had immediate sign-ups from a waiting list of customers, meaning 80 trees were immediately planted across the world to offset household boiler CO2.
Managing Director Amy Mooney said: “As a company that installs and maintains gas boilers throughout the region, and as parents of four young boys, we are concerned about the CO2 that gas boilers emit. However, the majority of homes in Britain – around 85% – are connected to the main gas grid, so until there is a suitable, safe and cost-effective way for people to replace their current boiler with a greener alternative, we are committed to doing everything we can to offset the carbon produced.
“This is why we decided that for every Gas Angel Cover plan taken out, we would plant two trees with the non-profit initiative Just One Tree, which is a fantastic global reforestation scheme. In fact, we hope that with the help of our customers, the world will see the creation of a Gas Angel forest!”
The Just One Tree project plants trees in places like Madagascar, Indonesia, and Nepal. Planting trees cleans the air, helps to filter water, stabilises soil, provides a home for eco-systems, and supplies us with medicines.
David Mooney, Gas Angel Director, and heating industry professional added: “It’s great to hear that the Government is preparing for a switch to hydrogen boilers and that a plan to transform our gas pipeline infrastructure to zero-carbon hydrogen has begun. But this impacts 23 million properties, which means it’s not happening any time soon.
“Rather than wait, we wanted to do something now that would help the environment and support our business and our customers in reducing their carbon footprint.”
In addition to planting trees through Gas Angel Cover, there are other ways in which homeowners with gas boilers can make a difference. David said: “There are several simple things we can all do to reduce our gas carbon footprint. For example, setting the timer on your boiler to ensure its not coming on when the house is empty, and having your boiler serviced regularly to ensure it’s working efficiently and not wasting energy. All of these things add up and, if enough of us are doing them, we can make a significant and positive impact on our planet.”
Gas Angel’s boiler and heating cover starts from just £5.00 per month, it includes a boiler service and two trees planted every year. The company is a Which? Trusted Trader organisation and were awarded the 2020 Certificate of Distinction, all engineers are Gas Safe Registered, and DBS checked.
